Elevating Strategy and Authenticity

A graduate of NYU’s Tandon School of Engineering with a Master’s in Integrated Digital Media, Henriques joined the Division of Programs in Business, initially teaching Digital Marketing before expanding her role to include courses in Social Media. Now, she teaches in both the Strategic Media Communications and Social Media certificate programs, helping students build the skills they need to navigate today’s fast-changing media landscape.

Henriques emphasizes the importance of integrating social media into a company’s overall communication strategy. “Social Media is a significant part of the overall Strategic Media Communications of a business,” she explains.

The more in tune the overall communication of a business is across all its platforms, the stronger the brand will be.”

In her courses, students explore branding, storytelling, audience engagement, competitive analysis, and content creation. At the core of her teaching is an emphasis on authenticity—helping students develop marketing strategies that reflect a brand’s values and resonate with its audience.

Hands-on Practice in Today’s Digital World

With media and social media trends constantly changing, Henriques ensures her curriculum remains relevant. “We share industry knowledge to immediately start in the field and address the trends in media, social media, and consumer behaviors today,” she says. From the increasing dominance of video content to the rise of AI and influencer-driven marketing, her students gain real-time insights into the industry. “Students get exposure to the ongoing social media dialogue and learn how to leverage social platforms most effectively.”

Henriques’ courses also emphasize hands-on learning. “Students practice producing a video, designing social posts, and using various tools for developing their work,” she says. “Experimentation is highly encouraged. The more they play, the better the outcomes.”

For those looking to advance or pivot their careers, Henriques sees the certificates in Social Media and Strategic Media Communications as key stepping stones. “Our Continuing Education courses provide an opportunity to help professionals advance by providing current and immediately useful industry exposure,” she says. “The better you are at understanding analytics, the stronger you will be in any role you choose in the field.”
