Dear NYU SPS Community,

We’re officially more than halfway through the semester! The academic year has already been filled with so many of the things at the heart of the NYU SPS experience: Access, Impact, and Success. 

On Access
This year, we’ve made significant strides in improving access to the NYU SPS global learning experience through our diverse programs and resources, including career pathway programs, merit scholarships, and scholarships supported by our industry conferences hosted by the Schack Institute, Tisch Center of Hospitality, and the Division of Programs in Business, along with delivering more flexible learning options.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to launch new initiatives and collaborations with industry partners to lift barriers further and improve access to higher education. This includes a new partnership with NYU SPS DAUS and The Burning Glass Institute to understand career mobility better and help support advancement for unrepresented New Yorkers. Stay tuned for more details this month! 

On Impact
I’m always incredibly proud of the work students and faculty apply to real-world learning. Each year, Professor Dave Hollander’s How Basketball Can Save the World class takes on a big assignment in the basketball community. Previously, the class successfully petitioned the UN to create World Basketball Day, and this year, they submitted an appeal to President Biden to pardon college basketball coach Book Richardson.

On Success
Our student success is evidenced in the real-world by our first inductees to the NYU SPS Hall of Fame. I was thrilled to celebrate their awe-inspiring accomplishments with careers that span from the Space Force to the NBA and WNBA to filmmaking to higher education institutions, the United Nations, and more! As we celebrate the 90th anniversary of NYU SPS, I continue to be excited to see how our current and future students will shape technology, global affairs, and the next-generation workforce.

Work Life significantly contributes to delivering NYU’s mission for academic excellence by improving its faculty and administrators' work-lives. All NYU departments and units may apply to receive a Caring Culture Grant of up to $5,000 to support projects that directly improve employee well-being at NYU. Last year, Diana Hartington from SPS DPB was given a grant that contributed to a series of wellness workshops. Applications are now open through November 27th. 

As we approach the end of the semester, please remember to prioritize your health and wellness. Taking care of yourself will help you finish strong heading into the new year.

NYU SPS offers various services through the Student Support Center for academic support, engagement opportunities, and career services. The University is also here to support you through outlets including NYU Wellness, Mindful NYU, and the International Hub.

I’d also like to take this final opportunity to remind those eligible to vote in the upcoming election to check out resources from NYU Votes to ensure you have a voting plan in place for November 5th.
